Why We Do What We Do

A visiting 8 1/2 year old took these notes during the sermon on Sunday. This, friends, is why we do what we do and especially why we welcome children in our worship with open arms!

  1. The kids and I have been inviting Kayla, our neighbor, to church with us. On Sunday, as I sat with my entourage of FOUR children (!!), I was listening to your sermon and wondering if the squiggly, doodling children were listening, too, or if they tuning out the entire service. I guess I was really wondering if it was worth it, being a single mom and dragging my three kids (and the neighbor) 20-some miles to church on Sundays.

And then, after the sermon and the service ended and the kids had run to fellowship hall for snacks, I saw what Kayla had left behind in the pew, the page she had been doodling on -- basically, her notes hitting the key points of your sermon.

It was one of those shivery moments where you feel like God has just answered your question through a human channel, in this case, an 8-1/2-year-old visitor.

"Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God."
